The Mission Statement of the Clinton Fire Department Training Division is to provide the highest quality training, instruction and evaluation to our members. This is intended to prepare our department to serve our community by Preventing Harm, Surviving, and Being Nice as we deliver our services.
The Vision Statement of the Clinton Fire Department Training Division:
- The Division of Training is responsible for the initial training and continuing skills development for all Firefighters, Fire Officers and Emergency Medical Service personnel.
- To fulfill these requirements, the staff of the Training Division is dedicated to creating and providing quality training programs that reflect the needs and changing responsibilities of the CFD.
- All training is focused on providing and maintaining the highest quality emergency service at both fire and medical responses to the people of Clinton, Iowa.
- Instructional programs target operational efficiency with emphasis on safe operating procedures for our members in all aspects of fire and emergency operations.
- We believe in the achievement of excellence in our services through dedication, teamwork, and open communication.

The Training Division provided 36,234 personnel hours of training over the last three years. This was made possible through teamwork by all department personnel. Some of the ways this was accomplished was by increasing daily documentation of creditable education hours, encouraging company officers to fulfill company training responsibilities, and increasing the availability of training objectives/drills to all personnel.
That is a 123% increase in hours in three years of recordable training hours. This increase contributed to lowering the city’s ISO rating from a five (5) to a three (3).
The majority of this training is accomplished “in-house”, within the department, to maximize our training funds allocation. This is critical since our training budget has remained mostly stagnant over the last six years.
Outside instructors provided only 552.5 hours of instruction over the last three years.
18 new recruits were trained over the last three years. The initial training consists of four weeks of daily academy type training (Monday-Friday, 0700-1600 hours and Saturdays 0700-1200 hours) for a total of 200 hours.
Next is 50 hours of general knowledge testing, address tests, and skill drills that is completed during their first ten months on shift.
