Smoke Detector Program

The Clinton Fire Department offers a smoke detector program for homeowners in the City Of Clinton. These detector are run off a lithium Ion battery and are good for 10 years. You should still check your batteries on all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors twice a year. A good rule of thumb is to check your detectors during day light savings when you change the time on your clocks. This program is free of charge to our citizens. We will come and install up to 3 smoke detectors, check any detectors you have at your residence and inform you if you have a sufficient amount of smoke detectors in your residence.

If you believe that your smoke detector is malfunctioning or your smoke detector is beeping, first make sure there is no fire or hazard. If a hazard is present evacuate the residence immediately and dial 911. If there is no hazard then remove your smoke detector and look at the back of your detector for trouble shooting assistance. DO NOT remove the batteries out of your detector to use in your remote, video games, etc. If your smoke detector is malfunctioning and you have to remove it, replace it immediately. You create a safety hazard to yourself and your family if you remove a malfunctioning detector and do not replace it with a properly functioning detector. If you have any questions feel free to contact us at any of our stations

This program is not available for rental properties. For more information of smoke detectors please visit our Building and Neighborhood Services page for further assistance.

Below you will find a picture of a smoke detector installed by Clinton Firefighters on 6/19/2010. This same smoke detector helped save the lives of residents at 609 5th Ave S during an early morning fire on 7/25/2012. It made it possible for the family to safely exit the home without injury. This program is made possible by volunteers and donators to the Clinton Smoke Detector Project. This program has had many success stories since the program was implemented into our community.
