Citizens Fire Academy

The Clinton Fire Department offers a Citizens Fire Academy Program to all members of the community age 18 and over.  The program was designed to be used as a method to inform taxpayers of what role the Clinton Fire Department provides for the community.  Historically, many members of the community think the fireman only put out fires.  Throughout the program, participants get a chance to learn of the many roles and responsibilities the fire department.  Some of these include fire prevention, fire education, fire investigation, fire suppression, emergency preparedness, emergency medical services, vehicle extrication, high angle rescue, confined space rescue, water rescue, building inspections and code enforcement, along with many other tasks.  The participants also get a chance to experience doing many of these tasks.  Among the hands-on events is a fire extinguisher class, fire sprinkler demonstration, vehicle extrication, fire engine operation, operating a hose line, as well as numerous other opportunities to see what being a fireman is about.  The program is currently offered every spring with an application period announced in late winter.
